And just like that, we’ve entered the new year. I truly hope each and every one of you who reads this has had a great time and is feeling energized for the new year. For myself, I want to kickstart this year by setting my personal goals for 2025. By writing them down and sharing them, I make them tangible and build in some accountability for myself. It’s out there; it’s real. While it’s all about the journey, not the destination, here are my personal goals for 2025.

How do I achieve this? Well, here are a few personal goals I set myself for 2025. They are goals, but also guidelines. Some are measurable, some not. But they all will help me be a better version of myself at the end of 2025.

Goal 1 – Become more financially free

Like so many of my generation, I amassed student debt during my studies by borrowing money from the government. Call it financial illiteracy, stupidity, or whatever you feel like. The point is, I didn’t see any issue with maximizing my Dutch student loans. I paid for my own studies, needed the money, and it was offered at 0% interest. What a deal, right? Well, I ended up with a little over €23,000 in student debt by the time I finished in 2018.

I now have a steady income and more control over my finances, so I intend to rid myself of this burden once and for all. I will dedicate quite some time, and posts, this year to my financial journey. It’s a personal long-term goal of mine to become more financially independent. Not FIRE, just more financial breathing room. Therefore, by the end of 2025, I intend to be debt-free.

Which automatically brings me to my next goal.

Goal 2 – Post an article every two weeks

I own a website. I host a domain. I like to write, research, investigate, and develop. So what’s holding me back from posting more? Motivation, mainly. I find it hard to set myself to actually put words out. But this year, I have goals and direction. I can write about my financial journey, my work experience, my expertise, and everything in between.

So, another goal for 2025, and one that is tangible and measurable: Post an article at least once every two weeks.

Goal 3 – Have my first e-book published by the end of 2025

Tying into my previous two goals of regularly posting and achieving more financial freedom, I want to publish a small e-book by the end of 2025. I am a regular speaker at conferences on the topics of marketing automation, database management, and digital marketing strategies. I have 12+ years of working experience with startups, scale-ups, and educational institutes.

This year, I want to bundle my tips, best practices, and experiences into a small, downloadable e-book. I feel this is achievable if I post regularly and use my materials more effectively.

Goal 4 – Develop an active lifestyle

If you’re anything like me, you probably have an office job. You spend ~6-8 hours a day at a desk, standing or sitting. When you get home, you probably sit on the couch for a few more hours. You sit down for dinner, you sit down to read, you sit down to do your taxes or whatnot. That’s a lot of sitting! I realized that I’ve been spending way too much of my time immobile. And that bad habit is what I will tackle in the new year.

  • Walk at least 30 minutes a day, a minimum of 5 days a week.
  • Work out twice a week, for a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Bike to my local destinations more often than taking public transport or the car.

Closing off

And that, quite plainly, are my personal goals for 2025. It may not seem that exciting for most, but for me it’s a big step to write it down and put it out there. It will give me some form of “pressure” to actually take action towards bettering myself. Like I said: It’s about the journey, not the destination. Let’s get started, shall we?
